Women's Child Care Society is a civil charitable, non profit and independent organization based in Beit Jala since 1944. It aims at providing all necessary activities to empower and raise the living standard of women, children and youth on a social, health, and educational level. Since its establishment the society provided a number of significant projects that contributed in promoting the living conditions of the local community in Beit Jala, namely:

  • Establishing a medical infant maternity center in 1944. 
    • Providing a First Aid Center and a feeding center during the Nakba in 1948. 
    • Establishing an embroidery workshops in 1968.
    • Building a housing project with 15 apartments in 1972. 
    • Implementing youth and children focused programs such as Open window Youth Program which aims at creating generation of Palestinian youth who appreciate and uphold the social values of our people, the program includes implementing activities such as: summer camps, Theater and Drama workshops, and lectures on different issues, youth health awareness programs and leadership training in addition to entertainment activities. 
    • Establishing a Food Production Unit in 2006 as an income generating project for the society, the productions of the kitchen (FPU) is well sold in the local market. 
    • Renovating the Auditorium in 2006, this helps the society create different acitivitie for the youth, women and their families.

Palestinian Youth Union was founded in 1992, and after the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority has been formally re-registered in the Palestinian Interior Ministry, an organization of youth non-governmental, non-profit organization, brings together all categories of young people and children, away from the group.

The Jemina Organization for Mentally Handicapped Children is a branch of the Dutch Jemina Organization. It was established in 1986 and works to provide care for mentally and physically handicapped boys and girls, to train them for independence, and to offer them entertainment and educational activities. Its services cover the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Jemina Home for boys and Kizya Home for girls, provide daily care as well as physiotherapy.


Swedish International Relief Association SIRA

In the Bethlehem area, SIRA (Swedish International Relief Association) helped epileptic children from 1968 - 1992. In 1992, the SIRA board decided to serve a new group: “The slow learners”. These were in urgent need for help as there wasn’t a single school in the area to meet this need.

Thus the first special education school was established in Bethlehem and in 1994 the second school was established in Jericho.

Founded in 1964, which in turn established Ash- Shurouq School in 1981. This Society aims at providing educational services and equal opportunities for the visually impaired, seeking to integrate them into the society. The society has also established a library for the production of "Braille" books, for the visually impaired.

Founded in 2004, the society is interested in the farmers' affairs as it helps them obtain agricultural guidance, finding possible ways to preserve their lands, and submitting projects for donor institutions. The society also urges the farmers to reclaim their lands and to be present on them in order to defy the establishment of the racist segregation wall scheme in the city.
